Mike and Helen have owned and operated Boise City Body Shop, Inc. and Boise City Wrecker Service for 31 years. They also own the Boise City U-Haul dealership and a small farm. Helen is a free-lance licensed insurance adjuster and auto damage appraiser. Mike was raised in Boise City where his family has lived for four generations. Helen was born in Salzburg, Austria as her family spent four years immigrating from Hungary to Ada, Oklahoma. They met at Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma. They were married in 1972 and have two children. Their son, Rocky, served in the Gulf War in the Air Force and is an Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper. Rocky and his wife Dana, a registered dialysis nurse, and their children, Warren and Charlet live in Bethany, Oklahoma. Rocky is a former Rotarian in the Beaver, Oklahoma club. Their daughter, Sheila Stinson and her husband, Preston, live in Oklahoma City. Sheila is an attorney and Preston is a real estate specialist with Lamar Advertising. Sheila is president of the North Oklahoma City Rotary Club. Rocky and Sheila both received black belts in Taekwondo as teenagers.
Mike joined Rotary in 1991 and served as club secretary for fourteen years, club president for two years, district community service chair for nine years, assistant governor for three years, and has held several other club and district offices. Helen joined Rotary in 2002 and has served as club secretary for three years and as club president. She is in her third year as district community service chair. They have attended two International Conventions, two Zone Institutes, and the International Assembly.
Mike served four years on the Boise City Council, two years as vice-mayor. He is an ASE certified Master Technician, a TRAA certified Master Tower and an Oklahoma Notary Public. Mike and Helen were named Honorary Troopers of the Year in 1998 by the Oklahoma State Troopers Association. They were named Patron of the Year by the Boise City Schools in 1995. Mike has received commendations from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the district attorney’s office, the EMS district, and the City of Boise City.
